About the artist
Mimi Frank was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her MFA from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland in 1979. Her work explores social, cultural, and historical themes or persons with the intent of creating physical objects that embody the essence of those investigations. Primarily working in steel and a range of other materials, her work straddles a craft sensibility of workmanship, while maintaining an artist’s expressiveness and interpretive power. Ms. Frank has received several Maryland State Arts Council Grants and has been nominated for an Award in The Visual Arts among other honors. Aside from her installation and commission work, she has had solo exhibits in California, New York, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and the Mid-Atlantic region. Ms Frank served on faculty of the Catholic University of America, Georgetown University, the University of Maryland and artist boards. She maintains studios in Austin, Texas and Brinklow, Maryland
